As a public higher education institution, the university has played an important role in Moldova's academic development. Its educational approach reflects modern European higher education principles, including participation in the Bologna Process since May 2005.
The university maintains an international cooperation network, with approximately 110 bilateral agreements with higher education institutions across 28 countries.
It is also a member of international university organisations, including the International Association of Universities, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and the Eurasian Universities Association.

EU CANDIDATE COUNTRY
Moldova has been an EU candidate country since 2022. Accession negotiations formally opened in 2024, and Moldova continues to progress through the accession process. In June 2026, the first negotiation cluster was opened.
